Attack on Titan The Movie: The Last Attack is the final entry in Attack on Titan's compilation film series. The film will cut together the two final specials comprising the series' finale. Centered on the conflicts surrounding Eren's Rumbling and the overarching struggle for the fate of the world—not to mention the citizens of Paradis Island—the film promises Attack on Titan's fans the chance to see the awe-inspiring climax in a new way.

The Last Attack was initially slated for a September 2024 Japanese release, but actually premiered on November 8. However, Western fans are left wondering when they, themselves, can expect the epic recap. Just as importantly, they're left wondering what they can expect from it. So far, Attack on Titan The Movie: The Last Attack's international release date is still unannounced. However, with so much buzz around the film, that's far from the end of the story.

Attack on Titan's Finale Is Best Experienced In A Theater

Whether one loves or hates Attack on Titan's controversial ending, The Last Attack seems to be a worthy adaptation of it. In fact, so far, it seems to be more than that. English-speaking internet reviews, although sparse and largely unverifiable for Western audiences, report that the film polishes up the original material with tidy cuts and impressive presentation. Still others have criticized the film as being a low-effort cash grab, repackaging episodes which had already aired (and throwing in the post-credits scene presently taking the internet by storm) to fill seats.

Yet, the finale of Attack on Titanbelongs on the big screen, and fans should keep an open mind. Sitting in the audience while The Rumbling plods towards the crowd in all its tremendous (titanic, even) scale would surely be uncanny. Ergo, an immersive experience that home streaming can't touch. Beyond the monochrome stillness of manga and the glow of unimposing computer monitors and television screens contained safely within one's own walls, the finale of Attack on Titan could find its greatest expression in the oppressive, overwhelming sensory deprivation of the theater.
Will Attack on Titan The Movie: The Last Attack Release Outside Japan?
Precedent Says No, But Profit Says Maybe
Unfortunately, Western fans might not get that experience. There's reason to expect that, since few other Attack on Titan movies have gotten a proper Western release, The Last Attack will likely follow suit. However, given its tremendous reception so far and the fact that the content it covers actually works very well as a film, The Last Attack might still get one.

Suppose for a moment that The Last Attack gets a proper theatrical release in the West, after all. What kind of timeline could a fan of the franchise expect? If past releases set any precedent, a November Japan premiere might get a Western release months later in 2025. Any precise date, at the moment, is purely speculative. If it doesn't, then fans can likely expect it to pop up on streaming sites like Crunchyroll after Japanese audiences are able to watch from home, too.

With Attack on Titan exploding in popularity in recent years and its finale being ideal for a film, there might be hope yet for Western fans. Regardless of their feelings about the finale, every Attack of Titan fan can expect The Last Attack to put it in a totally different light. For that reason alone, their fingers should be crossed that Attack on Titan The Movie: The Last Attack will confirm a theatrical release date.
